Fiber Broadband :

Alphion offers GPON-based all-optical, fiber-to-the-x solutions delivering secure quadruple-play voice, data, video and wireless services to residential and business subscribers.
GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a standard protocol defined by the International Telecommunication Union, Telecom committee (ITU-T) as G.984. GPON extends the earlier G.983 Broadband PON (BPON) standard by increasing both the downstream and upstream bandwidth, providing a more bandwidth-efficient encapsulation method using GPON encapsulation method (GEM), making the transport more packet based, providing a more scalable management method using ONT Management Control Interface (OMCI) and improving on the encryption and Forward Error Control (FEC) methods. This has been designed from the ground up to be a carrier-class optical network designed to deliver triple‐play services (voice, video, and data) from a Central Office to individual businesses or dwellings.
A key benefit of GPON is that it provides a mechanism for statistical multiplexing and oversubscription of the upstream and downstream bandwidth, so that this high bandwidth can be dynamically shared between many users. This statistical multiplexing and oversubscription capability of GPON allows the service provider to save on backhaul transmission costs while increasing the revenue potential of each fiber.
